PRINCIPALS PARTNER WITH LOCAL NONPROFIT TO PROMOTE STUDENT SERVICE
Cave Creek Unified School District leaders and Foothills Caring Corps Team Members work to plan ongoing volunteer opportunities for students of all ages to bring the community together.
Carefree, AZ – On Monday, July 12, 2021, Foothills Caring Corps (“FCC”) hosted Cave Creek Unified School District (“CCUSD”) Superintendent, Administrators, and Principals for a day of learning and service; focusing on how an ongoing partnership could benefit FCC and their Neighbors, older adults and persons with disabling conditions, and provide a fulfilling experience for students, parents, and teachers.
The discussion revolved around forming a club or program at Elementary, Middle, and High School levels within CCUSD, allowing students of all age levels to participate. These groups would volunteer with FCC throughout the school year and on an ongoing basis.
“It can be a challenge for students, especially younger ones, to find appropriate and available service opportunities in our community,” shared Jessica Brashear, Foothills Caring Corps’ summer intern and Valedictorian of Cactus Shadows High School’s Class of 2021.
With this barrier in mind, innovative and creative activities for each age level, such as field trips to see school plays or special nights at athletic events, were identified. These opportunities will allow student volunteers to serve, bridge the gap between youth and the older adults, and promote lasting relationships in the Foothills communities.
“We want this opportunity to be fulfilling and bring joy and happiness into the lives of student volunteers and Neighbors,” said Robin Cochran, Foothills Caring Corps Executive Director.
After the brainstorming session, CCUSD leaders volunteered around the FCC facility. Individuals broke into two groups, with one working in the Mobility Loan Closet to clean, assemble, and organize equipment, while others cleaned Mobile Meals’ delivery coolers.
Foothills Caring Corps is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Carefree, Arizona.
