Friendly Visits and Phone Chats
Volunteers become friends of homebound Neighbors with invaluable personal visits and phone calls. You’ll truly enjoy them. If the Neighbor is mobile, occasionally your visit may include a lunch outing or other activities.
Personal Visits and Phone Calls vary in length
Pet Visits
Do you have a pet who is certified for therapy visits? We’ll help pair you and your pet with a variety of Neighbors who will love your special generosity. As you know, nothing works its magic quite like a wagging tail.

Medical Transportation
You’ll drive Neighbors to medical appointments, accompany them inside, and return them safely home after the appointment.
Trips are generally 1 to 4 hours.
Van Driver Program
As their “van chauffeur”, you’ll enjoy fun outings that bring groups of Neighbors together. We organize a calendar of events that can include concerts, plays, movies, shopping, lunch, “silver sneakers”, chair yoga, and a variety of other fun excursions. Of course, we’ll give you the suitable training as a van driver.
The trips last 3 to 6 hours.
Mobile Meals
Placing a delicious, nutritious meal into the hands of an appreciative Neighbor is one our most popular volunteer activities. You’ll brighten up each day by chatting for a few minutes during each delivery. Meals are prepared by others. You choose the day or days of the week you wish to make deliveries.
Routes usually take 1 to 2 hours in the midday.
Shopping Assistance
It’s fun to take a Neighbor to the grocery store or other conveniently located establishments to help them with the shopping. You’ll assist with carrying bags into the home and help with unloading and storage. Equally gratifying is shopping for someone who can’t get out.
Trips are generally 1 to 2 hours.
Caregiver Relief
When needed, you’ll visit the home of a Neighbor for a few hours so that their family caregiver can take a break.
Relief Visits usually last 3 or 4 hours.
Business/Computer/Correspondence Help
Some of our Neighbors have trouble with arthritis and/or vision and need help opening mail, reading letters, or managing bills. Helping a Neighbor with those can be very rewarding. Also, you may help demystify the internet for them or simply help them with their emails. Plus, if you care to, introducing them to computer games like Solitaire and Chess can be lots of fun.
Visits vary in length.
Health Advocacy
Volunteers, along with our Staff, provide essential support to Neighbors who have recently been discharged from a hospital or rehabilitation center.
Volunteers are especially needed for this important program.
A little time can make big differences in the lives of your Neighbors.
