Summer Caravan
The Summer Caring Caravan was a huge success again in late August and this event was a “all hands-on deck” effort surrounded by our entire community including our amazing Volunteers and made even more impactful thanks to the generous donations from our corporate and faith partners who helped support the “Beat the Heat” water and summer supply drive.
Neighbors Enjoy the “Senior Olympics”
Good food, fun games and some good-natured competition were a winning combination.
It may not have been Paris, but the Holland Center provided a great venue for an indoor picnic and some great games to get everyone moving. There was golf, cornhole, a giant dice throw and an inspired equestrian race, among other events that put smiles on everyone’s faces. We are grateful to the Holland Center for their gracious hosting and partnership and this will be the first of many more events that are sure to entertain and delight in the coming months. For example, we’re looking forward to a Holiday Sing-a-Long there on December 17th to celebrate the joys of the season.

Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust Supports Foothills Caring Corps
We are delighted to announce a $35,000 grant from Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust in support of Foothills Caring Corps mobile meals program which will help us serve over 3,000 additional mobile meals to help our local homebound seniors and adults with disabilities.
“Words cannot express how grateful we are for this investment from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust said Brent Downs Executive Director of Foothills Caring Corps. This will make a huge impact and will help ensure that Foothills Caring Corps can help feed those who cannot purchase, prepare, or access meals on a regular basis due to mobility, vision limitations, other handicapping conditions, lack of affordable transportation options, and/or have financial constraints.
“For more than 24 years, Foothills Caring Corps has helped older adults and persons with disabilities live fuller and more independent lives,” said Gene D’Adamo, president and CEO of the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust. “By supporting their mobile meals program, Foothills Caring Corps is able to expand its reach and serve more homebound individuals in Phoenix.”
Looking ahead to the next 25 years…
Foothills Caring Corps relies on the generous investments from donors like you to support our mission to help our neighbors age in place with dignity and grace. Every dollar invested into our programs stays local in this community.
Last year we expanded our resources and our programs to include essential feedback from our neighbors, we increased our local activities to help offset social isolation, and we helped hundreds of our neighbors take on their health challenges by getting them to their doctors’ appointments. Our Volunteers and staff helped navigate challenges big and small. The demand for our services is the highest it has ever been with intakes up almost 40% this year.
As we lean into late fall and our 25th year we invite you to help us bring this work to the next level. As an organization we rely primarily on private donors and we encourage individuals to consider directing their state tax credit where it matters most. Our organization stands for independence and respect for our seniors who choose this place as home because it is a community that truly cares.
Respectfully,
Brent Downs
Executive Director

Volunteer Showcase
As fall brings the cooler weather that we have all been longing for, we welcome back our incredible volunteers who help us to deliver meals, drive, help with small tasks and visit with our neighbors. For those volunteers who helped us through the hottest days of summer, we are beyond grateful! Volunteering is good for the soul and it is proven that it is one of the best ways to help yourself and others stay healthy. It also weaves our lives together in ways that deepen our compassion and our understanding of what it is to age gracefuly.
A special thanks goes out to Connie and the Craft Angels from Our Lady of Joy Catholic Church who delivered extra cups and hand-created bags of goodies for our upcoming holiday events and helped us to coordinate this effort. We also were thrilled to receive a generous donation from Alchemi Labs of over 150 hats for our upcoming holiday drive- thank you to Andy & Debbie Birutis. The Delightful Quilters of Scottsdale created stunning quilts, potholders and other very special items hand-crafted for our neighbors for the holiday season ahead. Not to be left behind our Black Mountain Elementary K-kids created special kindness cards for our Mobile Meals neighbors as well as seasonal cards for the months ahead.
